Toasted Almond Martini ~ The Plaid and Paisley Kitchen ~ www.pandpkitchen.com

Happy Friday Everyone! Welcome to Very Merry Cocktails.  Where every week you are served a new and interesting cocktail.  This is one series that you won’t want to miss. Some Cheer and Goodwill served in a glass that will make all the holidays merry and bright!

Does anyone remember when the Good Humor Ice Cream Truck would drive around town enticing one to run out into traffic for a taste of his yummy treats? Not just an Ice Cream Man Van, but the Good Humor Ice Cream Truck.  I might be dating myself a little bit.  Well if you can remember this {or ask your Grandmother, hee hee} then I hope you know about the ice cream bar Toasted Almond.  Over the years I have asked people and it seems as this may have only been in the Chicagoland area.  It was my family’s most favorite treat!  Vanilla Ice Cream surrounded by an Almond Coating that was out of this world!

What does an Ice Cream Treat have to do with Martini’s? I can hear you asking yourself.

It is this ice cream flavor that I was able to capture in this drink.  Well I should say my Friend Ellie captured.  I am not sure if I remember the name she had for this cocktail but the first time I drank it, that sweet summer treat came straight to my mind and I have called it Toasted Almond ever since.

Ellie is my very posh friend so you can take it that this drink will deliver very good results at any cocktail party.

The irony of this drink is that it is named after a Summertime Treat and I only drink this in the winter.

This will warm you from the inside out.  When you feel frozen to the bone and you just can’t seem to warm up.  That is when you want to imbibe from this Very Merry Cocktail.  Made of equal parts of Frangelico and Amaretto it is like sweet liquid warmth sliding over your tongue down your throat to warm you through and through.

Rich, dark, sweet and warm.  This is a perfect cocktail to drink right before a long winter’s nap.

To make pour equal amounts of Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur and Amaretto into a glass.  Do not shake or pour over ice or into a chilled glass.  This should be drunk just as it is.  Warning this is a sipping cocktail.  Don’t go guzzling these down all night.  You will surely pay for it the next day if you do.

This Martini is 1 1/2 oz of each.

Ok, I will jump on the dating myself bandwagon with you, Chandra, and say that we definitely had the Good Humor Man and his almond crusted ice cream bars when I was growing up on Long Island, NY. My choice was always the strawberry shortcake pops (or the chocolate equivalent) but my dad loved the almond pops. :) Martini’s are my poison of choice, so I love your martini series!
